Who are we?
Tempest (formerly known as Hip Sobriety) provides alcohol abuse treatment for the 46 million Americans who don’t identify as addicted. We are building the next generation of recovery care: a meticulously designed brand and media presence that positions sobriety as an aspirational lifestyle choice and an online educational platform to help achieve it.
The Temper is the content arm of Tempest—a multi-contributor platform that calls bullshit on the normalization of drinking and drinking culture. We explore life through the lens of sobriety, addiction, and recovery (from anything), while interrogating the institutions, cultural forces, and histories of oppression that impact our sense of self, agency, and power.
Hip Sobriety was founded in 2014 and is backed by Slow Ventures, Refactor, Female Founders Fund, and Red Light Management.

They are passionate about the topics of mental health and recovery (from any chemical or behavioral addiction), and have a strong investment in and point of view around issues of social justice. We expect that this perspective will be represented and championed in their editorial approach through the championing of inclusive language, content, and writers, as well as in ways we have not yet imagined.
