How do I sign up for an account?

Go to https://tss.jointempest.com/signup

  1. Enter your email address.

  2. Choose a strong password. You need at least 10 characters, and a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters works best.

  3. Below the password, click on the link titled “I agree to these terms and conditions & how Tempest will use my data” to learn more about our terms and conditions.

  4. Once you’re done, click on the icon to the left of the link to indicate you agree to these terms and conditions.

  5. In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, click on Sign Up.

  6. Next, you’ll be redirected to a page that indicates a verification link has been sent to your email.

  7. Check your inbox for an email with the subject line “Welcome to Tempest!”

  8. Click on the link in the email to verify your account.

  9. You’ll be redirected to a verification page that reads “Good news: You’re all set!”

  10. That’s it! You’ve successfully created your account. If you’d like to log into your account, click on the login button in the lower right-hand corner of the verification page.

I didn’t receive my verification email in my inbox.

 If you don’t see an email with the subject line “Welcome to Tempest!” in your inbox:

  1. Make sure that you’re checking the same email you used to sign up for your Tempest account. Many of us have multiple email addresses, so make sure you’re looking in the correct one!

  2. Check your Spam folder. If you find the email there, be sure to add noreply@tempest.com to your Safe Sender list to prevent emails from being mistakenly routed there.

  3. Still don’t see the verification email? Resend it. On the lower left-hand corner of the “We’ve sent you a link” page, click on “Didn’t receive the email? Resend.” A banner message at the top of the page reading “We’ve resent your email verification” will appear.

If you still haven’t received your verification email, get in touch with us at admin@jointempest.com.

 I forgot the email address associated with my account.

If you’ve already signed up for an account but forgot the email address associated with it, contact us at admin@jointempest.com, and we’ll help you regain access to your Tempest account.

 I want to change the email address associated with my account.

  1. Log into your account.

  2. On the home page, in the left-hand navigation bar, click on “Account.”

  3. Above the Email field, click on “Change.”

  4. To save changes, click the “Update” button at the bottom of the page. A banner will appear that reads “A new email verification has been sent to (your email address).”

  5. Check the newly selected email account for a message with the subject line “Confirm email change to your Tempest account.”

  6. Click on the link in the email to verify your account.

  7. You’ll be redirected to a verification page that reads “Good news: You’re all set!”

How do I choose a strong password?

The more complex, the better! A strong password contains:

  • at least 10 characters

  • a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters

 I tried to choose a password but received an error message.

There are two reasons you’d receive an error message when choosing a password:

  1. Your password isn’t strong enough. See the Help article titled “How do I choose a strong password?” for some helpful tips and try again.

  2. You’ve already used that password on this account. We prevent you from recycling passwords to ensure your account remains secure. Select a brand new password that you’ve never used before.

 I forgot my password.

  1. On the login page, click on the “Forgot your password?” link.

  2. Enter the email address associated with your account and click “Send reset link.”

  3. A banner will appear that reads “A link to reset your password has been sent to (email address).”

  4. Check your email for a message titled “Reset your Tempest password,” and click on the link inside to reset your password.

  5. Create a new password. See the Help article titled “How do I choose a strong password?” for some helpful tips.

  6. When you’re done, click on the arrow button in the lower right-hand corner. You’ll be redirected to the login page, where you’ll be prompted to login with your new password.

 I want to change my password.

  1. On the home page, in the left-hand navigation bar, click on “Account.”

  2. Above the Password field, click on “Change.”

  3. Enter your current password, and then enter your new one. Remember, you can’t use a password you’ve used before.

  4. To save changes, click the “Update” button at the bottom of the page.

My password expired.

Every 90 days, we ask students to reset their password for security reasons. When you attempt to log in, you’ll receive an error message and be prompted to change your password.  You’ll follow the same process outlined in the article “How do I change my password?” above. If you’re still having trouble, get in touch at admin@jointempest.com.

 I haven’t received an invite to the secret Facebook Group yet. How can I join?

  1. First thing’s first: Make sure you’ve completed the Welcome Questionnaire. This will allow us to capture the email address associated with your Facebook account. Please note: If you're interested in joining the secret Facebook group with an anonymous account:

    • Create your anonymous Facebook account first

    • Make sure to either complete the questionnaire with that information or email the team at admin@jointempest.com so they know where to send your invitation.

  2. If you’ve completed the Welcome Questionnaire and still haven’t received your invitation, make sure to check your spam and promotional folders as the invite can often be flagged as either.

  3. Still haven’t received it? Email us.

 How do I create an anonymous Facebook account?

To join the private Facebook group anonymously, create a new Facebook account using a pseudonym or nickname. You’ll need:

  • Email address: If you already have a Facebook account, this email will need to be different from the one you already use.

  • Name of choice: A word of caution: Facebook occasionally shuts down accounts under false names. This is meant to be a protective measure to save their users from being scammed. However, it does come as an inconvenience for our purposes. We recommend you do not choose the name of a fictional character from a movie or a book. It’s best to go with a nickname and your middle name if you can.

If you don’t have a second email already, you’ll need to create one. Feel free to use your preferred email server, e.g., Google, Yahoo.

  1. Once you have a new email address, sign up here on the Facebook home page. Follow Facebook’s registration procedures.

  2. Once you've created your new profile, send us an email at admin@jointempest.com that includes the email address associated with your account so we can invite you to the secret Facebook group.

How private is the Facebook group?

Secret Facebook Groups (SFGs) are closed groups created by an administrator (in this case Tempest) where you have to be invited in order to find and participate in the group.

The following additional privacy settings also apply:

  • The group’s name is only visible to current and former members, it's not searchable.

  • Only those who are in the group can see who is an active member in the group.

  • Only current active members can see what you post or what others post within the group.

  • Anything that shows up in your newsfeed is only visible to you. These posts are notifications for you; they are not public to your friends and family.

I’m getting a lot of posts from TSS in my newsfeed. Can I turn this off?  

Yes, you can manage the notifications you receive in your newsfeed within the group page itself. To do this:

  1. Go to the TSS Secret Facebook Group.

  2. In the Tempest Sobriety School banner, click the "Notifications" button.

  3. When you click Notifications, select the option that best suits your needs:

    • Highlights: You’ll receive notifications for suggested posts based on who you’ve friended and which posts you've commented on

    • Friend’s posts: You’ll only receive notifications from friends

    • Off: You won’t receive notifications from members’ posts.

  4. Now, go back to your newsfeed and find a post from a fellow student.

  5. Click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the post.

  6. Select “Unfollow the Group.” This will prevent further notifications from showing in your newsfeed but allows you to remain an active member with access to the page in your Groups menu (in the left-hand side navigation bar).


When and where will this week’s lesson be available?

Each week's lesson will be posted on the course platform at tss.jointempest.com. Links to the new lesson will become active at 12 p.m. EDT every Sunday starting Sunday, June 16. You’ll receive a reminder email with a link to the video one hour before the call.

 I didn’t receive my daily mantra.

If you didn’t receive a daily mantra or a reminder email:

  1. Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. Often, major email providers will flag a message that includes one or more links in them (e.g., to the web page, our group call, or an outside resource) as a promotional message.

  2. If you still can't find your email after checking those folders, contact your TA via email. We ask that you please do not report issues concerning email delivery in the secret Facebook group.

How do I set up reminders on my phone to remember the daily mantra?

  1. If you have an iPhone: Read this Apple Support article.

  2. If you have an Android: Android phones have a number of choices for reminders. The two favorites amongst previous students are "Life Reminders" and "Google Calendar." Both can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. 

What software do I need to join the live weekly Q&A?

We use a free video conference software called Zoom, which you can download here. While Zoom does have a mobile app, we recommend joining the calls on your laptop or desktop computer.

 How do I enroll in an instructor Q&A?

  1. On or after June 12, go to tss.jointempest.com.

  2. Once you’ve logged in, scroll down the main page to any course and click on the “Live Q&A” button next to the course description.

  3. On the “June 2019 - Weekly Live Q&As ” course page, click the “Enroll” button.


How do I add the instructor Q&A to my Google or Apple calendar?

  1. Follow the instructions for the article “How do I enroll in a Q&A call?”

  2. Once you’ve clicked on the “Enroll” button, click the dark blue button “Add to Calendar. This will prompt our system to generate and download an ICS file.

  1. Open the ICS file to automatically add all of the school Q&As to your Google or Apple calendar. These reminders also include the Zoom link and password for each session.

How do I join an instructor Q&A?

Once you’ve signed up for Zoom, here’s how to join a Q&A call. You can:

  1. Click on the URL provided in your reminder email or pinned in the secret Facebook group. If the link doesn’t work, you can copy and paste the URL into your browser’s address bar.

  2. Click on a calendar reminder through the course platform’s “June 2019 — Weekly Live Q&As” signup.

  3. If you've downloaded the Zoom app, you can start the meeting from your Zoom app directly. Click on “Join,” then enter your scheduled meeting ID to start the meeting. This meeting ID is the 9-digit number provided to you in the email and at the end of the URL link.

  4. You will also need a password to join this room. The password for this school is tss1class.

How do I join the instructor Q&A from my phone or tablet?

If you are unable to join the call from your laptop or desktop, you can join using the Zoom app for either Android or iPhone.

  1. If you haven’t already, download the app.

  2. Once you've downloaded Zoom on your phone,open the verification email on your mobile device and click the link. }The application should open on your phone.

  3. When prompted for the meeting password, enter tss1class.

How do I join the instructor Q&A anonymously?

If you choose not to sign up for a Zoom account and simply launch the application on your desktop, it will prompt you to enter your name. You are welcome to enter any alias or pseudonym you choose!

If you’ve already downloaded Zoom on your desktop or mobile device before the Q&A:

  1. Login into your account.

  2. Go to "My Account."

  3. On the upper right-hand corner of the screen, click “Edit.”

  4. Change your name and/or add a photo to your profile.


I’m on the instructor Q&A call. How do I ask the instructor a question?

If you’re at your laptop or desktop computer, there are three ways to ask a question. You can:

  1. Submit an anonymous question using this form.

  2. “Raise your hand” in the Zoom application: Click on this icon in the menu bar at the bottom of your screen. Please note: You may need to hover your mouse over the bottom of the video for this option to appear.

  3. Use the chat function within Zoom. If you choose this option, please keep in mind the following:

    • Refrain from sending direct messages to the instructor. Instead, chat with the facilitating TA, and they’ll ensure the instructor answers your question.

    • Try to limit your use of the chat function to “Everyone.” The notifications can be distracting to your fellow attendees.

I’m having trouble using the Zoom platform.

 What is Spotify?

Spotify is an online music platform that you can use for free (with commercials) or $9.99 USD/month (without commercials). Spotify allows you to play any track at any time, build playlists, and listen to music offline (Premium only). In Tempest Sobriety School, you may hear Holly mention her personal playlists, which are all available on Spotify. Using these playlists is completely optional.

How do I sign up for Spotify?

To sign up for a Spotify account, go to this link. You can either sign up with an existing Facebook account or with your email address.

  2. When you choose either option, you’ll be prompted to download Spotify to your computer. If you don’t want to download the app to your computer, you can use the web app here.

 How do I get Spotify on my phone?

Go to the App store on your iPhone (or Google Play on your Android) and install the Spotify app.

  1. Go to the App store on your iPhone (or Google Play on your Android) and install the Spotify app.

  2. Once installed, tap the Spotify app icon. Search for specific artists or podcasts, discover new music, compile your own playlists, or access Holly’s podcasts (below).

What are Holly’s Spotify playlists?

Holly provides two playlists to students:

  • Kundalini Mix: for aiding in your meditation practice

  • Home Spa Mix: for creating a relaxing, quieting space as part of your morning or evening ritual
