How to create an anonymous Facebook account

  1. Go to https://www.facebook.com

  2. Fill out the "Sign up" fields. You'll need two pieces of information:

    • Your name of choice: Keep in mind that Facebook occasionally shuts down accounts under false names. This is meant to be a protective measure, but it does come as an inconvenience for our purposes. For more information on Facebook's guidelines for using a name other than your legal name, click here.

      • Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

        • We don't recommend using names of fictional characters from books or movies.

        • Some of our past students have used their nickname and middle name to successfully register an anonymous account.

  3. Once you've created your new profile, send us an email at admin@jointempest.com that includes the email address associated with your account so we can invite you to the secret Facebook group.

I didn’t receive my daily mantra.

If you didn’t receive a daily mantra or a reminder email, check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. Often, major email providers will flag a message that includes one or more links in them (e.g., to the web page, our group call, or an outside resource) as a promotional message.

If you still can't find your email after checking those folders, contact your TA via email. This will help us assist you more quickly than if you post about email delivery issues in the secret Facebook group.

I didn’t receive my verification email in my inbox.

If you don’t see an email with the subject line “Welcome to Tempest!” in your inbox:

  • Ensure that you’re checking the same email you used to sign up for your Tempest account. Many of us have multiple email addresses, so make sure you’re looking in the correct one!

  • Check your Spam folder. If you find the email there, add noreply@jointempest.com to your Safe Sender list to prevent emails from being mistakenly routed there.

  • Still don’t see the verification email? Resend it. On the “We’ve sent you a link” page, click “Didn’t receive the email? Resend.” A banner message at the top of the page reading “We’ve resent your email verification” will appear.

If you still don't receive your verification email, email us at admin@jointempest.com.

 I forgot my password.

  1. On the login page, click on the “Forgot your password?” link.

  2. Enter the email address associated with your account and click “Send reset link.”

  3. A banner will appear that reads “A link to reset your password has been sent to (email address).”

  4. Check your email for a message titled “Reset your Tempest password,” and click on the link inside to reset your password.

  5. Create a new password. See the Help article titled “How do I choose a strong password?” for some helpful tips.

  6. When you’re done, click on the arrow button in the lower right-hand corner. You’ll be redirected to the login page, where you’ll be prompted to login with your new password.

I forgot the email address associated with my account.

If you have already signed up for an account but forgot the email address associated with it, contact us at admin@jointempest.com, and we’ll help you access your Tempest account.

I haven’t received an invite to the secret Facebook Group yet. How can I join?

If you haven't received an invitation to your cohort's secret Facebook group yet, make sure you’ve completed the Welcome Questionnaire. This will allow us to capture the email address associated with your Facebook account.

Please note: If you're interested in joining the secret Facebook group with an anonymous account, you'll need to create your anonymous Facebook account first. For more information about how to create an anonymous Facebook account, click here: https://www.jointempest.co/anonymous-facebook

Make sure to either complete the questionnaire with that information or email the team at admin@jointempest.com so they know where to send your secret Facebook group invitation.

If you’ve completed the Welcome Questionnaire and still haven’t received your invitation, make sure to check your spam and promotional folders as the invite can often be flagged as either. If you're still having trouble, contact us at admin@jointempest.com, and we'll be happy to assist you.

I tried to choose a password but received an error message.

There are two reasons you’d receive an error message when choosing a password:

  • Your password isn’t strong enough. For some helpful tips on choosing a strong password, click here: https://www.jointempest.co/strong-password

  • You’ve already used that password on this account. We prevent you from recycling passwords to ensure your account remains secure. Make sure to select a brand new password that you’ve never used before.

I’m having trouble using the Spotify platform.

Is the Facebook group private?

Yes, your cohort's Facebook group is private. It's a secret Facebook group, which is a closed, unsearchable group created by an administrator (in this case Tempest). The administrator must invite you in order for you to find and participate in the group. Here's some more information on secret Facebook groups:

  • The group’s name is only visible to current and former members. It's not searchable.

  • Only current members can see who is an active member in the group.

  • Only current members can see what you post or what others post within the group.

  • Anything that shows up in your newsfeed is only visible to you. These posts are notifications for you; they are not public to your friends and family.

What is the structure of each lesson?

Within each lesson, on the left-hand side, are the blocks (or sections) of the lesson. You can start with any section, but you might find it beneficial to review the lessons in order.

  1. Start Here includes an overview of that week’s learning objectives and a number of handy downloads to materials like the workbook and lecture slides.

  2. The lesson videos walk you through each step of that week’s material. Some weeks have more videos than others. Each video also has an audio file version available for download.

  3. How I Made It Work is a series in which our teaching assistants, coaches, and other former students speak to one aspect of their sobriety, like finances, parenting, dating, and more.

  4. Homework includes a checklist for that week, but you’re not required to fill it out.

  5. Contact Us includes all of the information that you need to get your questions answered.

What is orientation?

Orientation is your introduction to Tempest Sobriety School. During the orientation, we give an overview of the different parts of the course. We’ll also examine the concept of addiction in general and look at Tempest’s philosophy of addiction and sobriety. The orientation typically airs the Thursday before the first day of school.

 What is the questionnaire?

The questionnaire is divided into two parts:

  1. The intake survey: The first part of the questionnaire is a set of questions that will allow us to learn more about you so that we can best support you throughout the school. You can expect questions about your demographic information — your age, gender and sexual orientation, ethnic background, geographical location — as well as questions about your alcohol use, family history, and more. Not all of the questions are required, but the ones that are have been marked with an asterisk.

  2. The outcomes study: The second part of the questionnaire is completely optional. The study’s purpose is two-fold: to look at the efficacy of the program to improve it, and to support our efforts in contracting with insurance providers so that one day, your benefits cover our program. Again, while participation is optional, your participation means that we can find out what we are doing right and what we could do better for future students.

Finally, we deeply value and respect your privacy. Therefore, your answers will be collected and assigned a unique student ID number. That means that this ID number — not your name or email address — will be attached to this information and any information that you provide throughout the course.

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming service that you can use for free (with commercials) or for a monthly subscription (without commercials). For more information, click here: https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/the_basics/what-is-spotify/

In Sobriety School, you may hear Holly mention her personal Spotify playlists. If you'd like to listen to them, click here: https://www.jointempest.co/tss-spotify-playlists

What software do I need to join the live weekly Q&A?

We use a free video conferencing software called Zoom. To download Zoom, click here: https://zoom.us/download

While Zoom does have a mobile app, we recommend joining the calls on your laptop or desktop computer for the best experience.

When and where will this week’s lesson be available?

Each week's lesson will be posted on the course platform at tss.jointempest.com. Links to the new lesson will become active at 12 p.m. ET every Sunday starting Sunday, June 16. You’ll receive a reminder email with a link to the video one hour before the call.

If you have trouble logging into the course platform, please email us at admin@jointempest.com.

For orientation, we’ll host a live video. The replay will be available on the course platform at 12 p.m. ET the next day.

Why do the book titles in our course materials link to Amazon?

Tempest is a member of the Amazon Affiliate program. This means that if you buy a book through one of our Amazon links, Amazon will pay us a nominal fee. If you’d like to buy a book elsewhere, you can either find it elsewhere online or inquire your local independent or chain book store. Please don't take this as a requirement to buy, though — you absolutely don't have to buy anything extra for the course.

If you’d like to find out how to read a Tempest-recommended book for free, click here: https://www.jointempest.co/books-free
